Poly-L-lactic acid stimulates your skin's own collagen production – gradually, naturally, without surgery
Injectable collagen biostimulator based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)
Stimulates the skin's own collagen production rather than adding volume immediately
Results build gradually over weeks to months
For temples, cheeks, jawline, décolleté and selected body areas
Performed by a doctor following individual medical assessment

Sculptra® places poly-L-lactic acid in the deeper layers of the skin, where it sets off a targeted stimulus. The body responds with its own collagen production, slowly and over weeks and months. The result is firmer skin and better-defined contours that cannot be traced back to a single treatment day.
Treatment Areas
Sculptra® works across larger areas and in depth. It is suited to anywhere volume and firmness have declined over time – not to pinpoint corrections.
Face
Typically from the mid-30s, when the face begins to lose contour
Temples
Hollow temples make the face look narrow and tired. Sculptra® gradually rebuilds the area.
Cheeks & midface
The classic indication: compensating volume loss and firming the skin across the area.
Nasolabial area
Hollows beside the nose smooth out as the midface regains support.
Jawline & chin
Clearer definition of the lower face without changing its shape.
Body – certified areas
EU-certified for four body areas since December 2025
Décolleté
Crepey lines and thin, sun-damaged skin gain density.
Upper arms
Firming of loose skin on the inner arms across the whole area.
Buttocks
More firmness and contour – and a more even skin surface where cellulite is present.
Posterior thighs
Improvement in skin texture, firmness and the appearance of cellulite on the back of the thighs.
Good to know
In the EU, Sculptra® is certified for the face as well as the buttocks, posterior thighs, décolleté and upper arms. It is not injected into the lips or the immediate eye area – for those we use hyaluronic acid, mesotherapy or Rejuran® I. Which areas are suitable in your case is determined during your medical consultation.
Sculptra® is an injectable collagen biostimulator based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a resorbable material that has been used in medicine for decades. Unlike conventional fillers, Sculptra® does not add volume. It creates a controlled stimulus in the deeper connective tissue, and the body responds by producing new collagen of its own. The result therefore does not appear on the day of treatment but builds gradually over weeks to months. Because of this slow build-up, others find it hard to say what has changed: the skin looks firmer and the contour more defined, without an “overfilled” look.
With age, the body breaks down more collagen than it produces, and skin and contour lose support. Sculptra® targets this imbalance. Rather than replacing lost volume, it restarts the body's own collagen production. The result develops slowly and looks harmonious as a consequence.
PLLA is a resorbable material that the body fully breaks down over time. It is reconstituted before treatment and placed in the deeper dermis.
The particles trigger a targeted, mild reaction in the connective tissue – the starting point for the body's own remodelling process.
Fibroblasts are the cells that make collagen. They are activated and resume production in the treated zone.
Newly formed collagen gradually integrates into the existing structure and improves the skin's firmness, density and elasticity.
The result develops over weeks to months. That is why treatment is usually spread across several sessions, with reassessment in between.
Quantity, dilution and injection depth are tailored to your findings, skin quality and treatment goal – not to a template.
Every treatment begins with a consultation with a doctor. We assess skin quality, volume distribution and facial structure, review your medical history, medication and previous aesthetic treatments, and discuss whether Sculptra® is the right approach for your concern. Because the result builds over months, we agree a realistic timeframe and the expected number of sessions upfront.

The product is reconstituted before use and must rest for a sufficient time – this step is essential for an even result. After cleansing and disinfection we apply a numbing cream if required. The injection is placed with a fine needle or cannula into the deeper dermis or subcutaneous tissue, in several small deposits per area. The area is then carefully massaged to distribute the material evenly. A session usually takes 45 to 60 minutes.

Self-massage of the treated areas is an integral part of Sculptra® aftercare – we show you exactly how and how often. Mild swelling, redness or small bruises are possible and usually settle within a few days. For around two weeks we recommend avoiding saunas, sunbeds, intense sun and very strenuous exercise. The next appointment usually follows after four to six weeks, once the build-up can be assessed.

Visibly firmer skin through newly formed, natural collagen
Restored volume in the cheeks, temples and midface
A clearer jawline and more harmonious facial contour
Improved skin density and elasticity
Smoothing of hollow areas such as the nasolabial folds and cheek region
Firmer skin on the décolleté and upper arms
Improved skin appearance where cellulite is present on the buttocks and posterior thighs
A gradual, natural-looking build-up without abrupt change
Results vary individually, often lasting several months to years
Sculptra® is not a quick lunchtime treatment. It requires a sound knowledge of anatomy, correct preparation of the product and realistic planning over several months. At GenClique Aesthetics it is performed only by doctors and only after an individual medical assessment. If another approach, such as hyaluronic acid or a combination of treatments, suits your concern better, we will tell you so.

Poly-L-lactic acid has been used in medicine for decades, including in resorbable sutures. Sculptra® has been in clinical use as a collagen biostimulator for many years and is CE-marked. As with any injectable treatment, the result depends largely on the indication, the technique and the aftercare. We follow our patients through the entire build-up period and reassess progress before each further session.

Sculptra® suits patients who are prepared to give it time and want a change that cannot be traced back to a single appointment. If you expect an immediately visible result, hyaluronic acid is usually the better choice. In many cases a combination of the two makes sense, and we discuss this in the consultation.

Which treatment is right for you?
All four treatments stimulate the skin's own collagen production – but by different routes, at different speeds and for different concerns. An overview to help you bring the right question to your consultation.
This page
Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA)
The classic biostimulator: it adds no volume of its own but creates a stimulus to which the body responds with its own collagen production. The result develops slowly and therefore looks especially natural. For volume loss, broad-area firming and contour on the face and body.
Immediate + build-up
CaHA
Biocompatible microspheres in a gel carrier. The gel provides volume immediately, and the microspheres then stimulate collagen production – a visible result on treatment day that continues to firm over the following weeks. Particularly suited to the cheeks, nasolabial folds and jawline contouring.
Immediately visible
Fillers & biostimulating formulations
Binds water and adds volume immediately. Conventional fillers shape the lips, cheeks and chin; lightly cross-linked skin boosters improve skin quality and hydration with repeated use and can support collagen production. The right choice when the result should be visible the same day – and reversible if needed.
Lift + build-up
PDO, PLA & PLLA threads
Resorbable threads are placed beneath the skin and provide immediate mechanical support. As they dissolve over the months, the body forms new collagen along them. Ideal for gently firming lax areas on the cheeks, jawline and neck – without adding volume.
Here you will find answers to the most common questions about Sculptra® treatment. If your question is not covered, please get in touch with us directly.
Sculptra® is an injectable collagen biostimulator based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). It does not add volume but prompts the body to produce its own collagen again.
Hyaluronic acid adds volume immediately – the result is visible straight after treatment and lasts as long as the material remains in the tissue. Sculptra® works differently: it creates a stimulus to which the body responds with its own collagen production. The result develops gradually over weeks to months and is based on your own tissue. The two are not mutually exclusive. Depending on your findings we combine them – for example Sculptra® for broad structure and hyaluronic acid for targeted contouring.
We typically treat the following areas: - Temples, cheeks and midface - Nasolabial area, jawline and chin - Décolleté and upper arms - Buttocks and posterior thighs, including for cellulite This matches Sculptra®'s EU certification for the face and – since December 2025 – four body areas. Sculptra® is not suitable for the lips or the immediate eye area. We use other treatments there.
A session usually takes 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the number and size of the areas treated. Preparation time is additional, as the product needs to be reconstituted and rest for a sufficient period before use.
Most patients find the treatment well tolerated. We can apply a numbing cream beforehand on request, and the product solution usually also contains a local anaesthetic.
There is usually no real downtime. Immediately after treatment there may be mild swelling, redness or small injection marks, which generally settle within a few days. Bruising is possible. For around two weeks we recommend avoiding saunas, sunbeds and very strenuous exercise.
Immediately after treatment there may be a slight filling effect – this comes from the fluid and disappears within a few days. The actual effect is based on new collagen formation and usually becomes apparent from the fourth to sixth week. The full result is generally assessed after several months, once all planned sessions are complete.
Mild swelling, redness, tenderness and occasional small bruises at the injection sites are common and harmless. They usually settle within a few days. In rare cases, palpable firm areas or small nodules can develop later. Correct preparation of the product, the right injection depth and consistent massage afterwards reduce this risk considerably. We go through all possible risks with you in the consultation before treatment.
Two to three sessions at intervals of four to six weeks are usually planned. The actual number depends on your starting point, your treatment goal and how your tissue responds to the first session. We reassess progress before each further session.
Because the result is based on your own collagen, it lasts comparatively long – often one to two years. Individual duration depends on factors including age, skin condition, metabolism and lifestyle. A top-up is possible at any time afterwards.
The most important measure is self-massage of the treated areas in the days following treatment. It helps distribute the material evenly. We show you the technique and give you a specific schedule to follow. We also recommend consistent sun protection and avoiding saunas, sunbeds and very strenuous exercise for around two weeks.
We do not treat where there is active inflammation or infection in the planned area, known hypersensitivity to any of the product's components, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Where there is a tendency to keloids or certain autoimmune conditions, we assess particularly carefully. Sculptra® is also not suitable for the lips or the immediate eye area. Whether treatment is an option in your case is determined during your medical consultation.
Yes. In practice, combination is often the sensible approach, because the treatments work at different levels. - Hyaluronic acid for targeted contour, while Sculptra® builds structure across the area - Botulinum toxin for expression lines - Morpheus8 or mesotherapy to improve the skin's surface What matters is the order and the interval between treatments. We plan both individually so the treatments complement rather than overlap one another.
The cost depends on the number of areas treated and the amount of product required. One vial starts at 599 €; a package of three is available for 1500 €. Billing is based on the German medical fee schedule (GOÄ). The prices given here are guide prices; the actual fee depends on your individual circumstances. You will receive a binding quote after your consultation.
